Full overhaul and re-certification of a custom-designed tension winch system

The Requirement
For a customer who was supplied with a tailor-made Tension Frame Winch
system, custom-designed and developed by Dana SAC Norway, we were asked to
perform a complete overhaul of the following components: winch, gearbox and
brakes. Operating in a harsh marine environment, the winch is installed on an oil
rig, making it necessary to re-certify the system in compliance with DNV
standards, which is possible at our workshops in Larvik. The customer was also
eager to be kept up to date with each step of the overhaul, evaluating
photographic material that we supplied and sharing our plans step by step of the
process.
our solutions
After disassembling the winch for inspection, we reported back to the customer
with details of the findings before starting the overhaul. Our intervention was
focused on motor overhaul, gearbox and brake overhaul, winch frame overhaul,
surface treatment, and third-party re-certification.
A DNV surveyor re-certifed the winch at our Larvik facilities, attending the work
test of both gearbox and brake. Load testing was certified as well as welding
inspection in accordance with NS 477/IWI.
The winch was returned within the planned time frame, collaborating with
customer to ensure that downtime was limited as much as possible.
The complete service report, DNV certificate and all other documentation was
made available to the customer.
