winches
broad knowledge and experience in most industrial sectors especially for applications in the Marine industry
Each of the winches in this series has been developed to provide superior technical features
leading to increased durability, improved product performance and a higher degree of safety,
a factor which is of primary importance in the marine industry. Key features range from the
high-performance gears to the construction quality and materials used to the hi-tech torque
sensors and electronic devices.
EXCLUSIVE ACCESSORIES
Fully equipped with innovative accessories and integrated electronic devices,
the winches enable greater control for safer operation and longer rope life.
MAN-RIDING
An auxiliary brake for personnel lifting applications is available for all sizes from BWE015
to BWE160, ensuring maximum safety and operating reliability. Winches featuring this accessory
are approved by DNV-GL and ABS and comply with API-2C specifications.
Long-term experience in the Marine industry allows us to advise our customers, backed by the
expertise we have gathered for several applications; in particular with regard to onshore and
offshore solutions involving winches and winch drives. In compliance with DNV and ABS
standards, these solutions are tailored to suit some of the toughest applications in this sector.
Providing reliable strength and performance, our winch and winch drive solutions are used on
cable and pipe-laying tensioners, deck cranes, mobile harbor, rubber-tired gantry and luffing
cranes, and other shipyard equipment.
We supply dedicated solutions for the many specialized cranes that are used in large
shipyards located usually near the sea or on tidal rivers for easy access.
Such cranes are also used in dry docks, slipways, dust-free warehouses, painting
facilities, and extremely large areas for ship building.
One example is a ship lift used to dry dock and launch ships. Consisting of a
structural platform, which is first lowered underwater enabling the ship to float
above the support, the platform and ship are subsequently lifted bringing the
ship up to the level of the quay.

LUFFING CRANE
In a shipyard luffing cranes are a fundamental piece of equipment, able to perform countless lifting and installation tasks. Used for freight loading in ports, level-luffing cranes are also used in the construction of small to medium-sized ships. Luffing cranes incorporate traveling, slewing, luffing and lifting mechanisms and perform bucket loading, container loading as well as hook loading.
Level-luffing cranes are designed to keep the level of the hook always at the exact same height while luffing. The jib moves up and down so as to move the hook inwards and outwards from the crane base. When loads near ground level are to be moved with maximum care, level-luffing is a crucial capability, for example in shipbuilding or construction. Modern cranes now implement fixed horizontal jibs with an additional “horse head” section. In this case the interconnected action of the pivots is sufficient to maintain the level.

OFF SHORE PLATFORM
For more than 40 years, Dana’s Fairfield® brand has been engineering and building gearboxes for jacking machinery used on offshore platforms.
A complete line of solutions covers a broad range of applications, from lift boats to the largest jack-up platforms. Each drive is designed to meet application-specific requirements and can be driven by electric or hydraulic motors. Features such as customized input configurations, output configurations and specific ratios suited to the application make Dana an ideal partner for your project.
Extensive engineering experience ensures the best solution for each vessel, implementing precision gearing for smooth jacking and unbeatable reliability, even in the most demanding applications.
Certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Det Norske Veritas (DNV), our products benefit from marine-specific coatings and treatments and possess 124K to 3000KNm storm holding capabilities.

DECK CRANE
As deck cranes for offshore applications need to be able to manage several hundred tons, often while ships are floating in a stormy sea, Dana is careful to work closely with a customer to find the ideal solution in terms of performance and safety. Customizable design options include hydraulic and electric drivelines; telescopic, knuckle, or lattice booms; a range of control system features to improve accuracy; and environmental features to optimize performance based on working conditions.
Working to ensure that local standards are met, as well as regulations set by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), Dana fulfills the requirements and delivers the long-term answer.
